In a significant move towards digital excellence, Ts. Syahrul Nizam Junaini, an esteemed lecturer from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), has received the Malaysia Digital Transformation Award 2024 (Special Mention – Dare to Do Award).
This prestigious award was presented during the GovInsider Live Malaysia Conference, recognizing Syahrul’s pioneering efforts in promoting digital transformation and innovation. His groundbreaking work, particularly in empowering agricultural entrepreneurs and small business owners, has greatly enhanced Malaysia’s technological landscape, with a particular focus on uplifting rural Sarawak.
Syahrul’s journey in digital transformation is impressive. As the lead trainer for the Rural ICT Training and Development Program 2024, he introduced innovative artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at fostering rural entrepreneurship. He traveled extensively across Sarawak, from Sematan to Bario and Lawas, where he engaged directly with communities, teaching essential AI and digital business skills to over 260 participants.
This initiative, organized by UNIMAS Business School and funded by the Sarawak Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development (M-FICORD), has empowered local rural communities and created new economic opportunities through digitalization.
