Kota Samarahan, Sarawak – October 28, 2024
The Atrium at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), vibrant with energy on October 28 as postgraduate students gathered for a hi-tea event that symbolised the spirit of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and academic resilience. Hosted by the newly established Postgraduate Association (PGMED), the gathering brought together 41 students from various academic programs, including Master in Orthopedic Surgery, Master of Nursing Education, Master of Public Health, Doctor of Public Health, and research-based Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. During the event, attendees engaged in discussions, exchanging ideas and insights that bridged their varied fields of study. The event was more than a meeting—it was a shared experience that united students in their journey toward academic accomplishment. The gathering raised an atmosphere where goals were not just academic but personal; friendships were built, and new academic corporations were born. As Dr. Simon Channing Nub, President of PGMED, warmly welcomed students, he underscored the value of community in navigating the postgraduate experience, especially in today’s fast-evolving academic setting.
Adding the highlight to the day’s events, Prof. Dr. Chew Keng Sheng, Deputy Dean (Graduate, Research, & Commercialization), delivered a thoughtful talk titled “Becoming a Postgraduate in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.” As he spoke, Prof. Dr. Chew looked into the challenges and promises of the AI-driven world, encouraging students to embrace adaptive learning and cultivate self-motivation. The sharing made an impact with many, sparking conversations on how AI could enhance, challenge, and shape their postgraduate journeys. By the session’s close, students had not only gained a deeper understanding of the field but also rejuvenated the drive to tackle the hurdles of academic life.
Beyond talks, this event gave students a rare opportunity to connect personally. They discussed research goals, shared experiences, and extended peer support—connections that will undoubtedly add value to their studies and professional journeys. This hi-tea session concluded at 5 PM, leaving attendees with a shared sense of purpose and a collective commitment to supporting one another.
