In today’s fast-changing digital environment, it is more important than ever to develop talent and encourage teamwork. Persatuan Teknologi Maklumat (PERTEKMA) made substantial efforts to promote these attributes by organizing a range of eSports events as part of IT Week.
These initiatives aimed to harness the competitive spirit and collaborative skills of our students, preparing them for future challenges in the digital arena.
During this semester, PERTEKMA arranged two significant eSports tournaments: one for Mobile Legends and another for Valorant, which were conducted on May 18th to May 19th, 2024, and from May 25th to May 26th, 2024.
These competitions took place at the Gizmo Gamers Esports Arena in Kuching and the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at UNIMAS.
Both events were carefully organized to offer students an opportunity to demonstrate their gaming abilities, while also highlighting the importance of teamwork, strategic thinking, and good sportsmanship.
The Mobile Legends competition had 16 teams, each with five members participating. Likewise, the Valorant tournament featured 16 teams, each consisting of five members.
Overall, 160 students were actively engaged in these events, demonstrating the significant interest and passion for eSports in our community.
The success of these events was not solely due to student participation but also the strong support from various communities and industry partner.
PERTEKMA worked together with Gizmo Arena, a long-standing sponsor of our IT Week eSports events for multiple years. Gizmo Arena significantly contributed to publicizing the events and offering technical assistance to ensure smooth operations.
The students’ feedback has been extremely positive, with many expressing gratitude for the chance to showcase their skills in a competitive yet supportive setting.
Students highlighted how the tournaments provided a valuable opportunity to develop their strategic thinking and team coordination. In general, the events were viewed as intense, demanding, and greatly satisfying, leaving students enthusiastic about upcoming competitions.
The IT Week eSports events have been incredibly successful in promoting talent and teamwork among our students.
These efforts have not just given students a platform to showcase their gaming skills, but also provided valuable insights into the potential of the eSports industry.
PERTEKMA is dedicated to supporting and nurturing our students’ interests in digital and technological fields, equipping them for a future where such skills are increasingly sought after.
As we anticipate the upcoming semester, we are focused on building upon this success by expanding our programs and maintaining our partnerships with industry leaders to create even more opportunities for our students.
