An outreach programme at Sekolah Tunas Bakti Kuching was conducted earlier this month (8th June 2024) involving FSSH students. This was part of the class activity for SSF3263: Deviance and Reformatory Services class, under the supervision of Dr Kamsiah Ali. The programme Director, Awang Khairul Taufiqillah bin Awang Rapbil, said that it is organised by Year 3 Social Work students.

This one day programme was held at Dewan Sri Bakti and involved 18 participants from Sekolah Tunas Bakti. Other than aiming to enhance collaborations between both institutions, this programme also provide guidance and training to the participants, especially on improving their communication skills and balancing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of an individual. A number of activities were conducted during the programme.

According to Dr Kamsiah Ali, the co-ordinator for SSF3263: Deviance and Reformatory Services class, this is part of the Faculty’s Future Ready Curriculum – focusing on Immersive Experiential Learning. This programme provides early exposure to the students about the roles of institutions such as Sekolah Tunas Bakti. Dr Kamsiah further added that she hopes the students gain valuable experience and exposure in the practical aspects of social work that they can use later on in their careers. She also thanked Sekolah Tunas Bakti, represented by Mdm Suliana Binti Jeryin, for their willingness to participate in this programme.

Also present at the closing ceremony was Mdm Suliana Binti Jeryin (right), seen here with Dr Kamsiah Ali, Deputy Dean (Undergraduates) at FSSH and Awang Khairul Taufiqillah bin Awang Rapbil, the Programme Director.

This outreach programme is very much in line with FSSH’s motto of being a partner of social change. At FSSH, we are advocating inclusivity and partnership with community in pursuing social transformation. It is our hope that our collaborations with Sekolah Tunas Bakti, which started way back, will continue to flourish in years to come. Thank you Sekolah Tunas Bakti for having us. Looking forward to more collaborative programme in the near future.
