In a commendable display of teamwork and environmental consciousness, the Persatuan Sains dan Teknologi (Persaintek) of the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST, UNIMAS) joined forces with the Petrochemical Engineering Department (JKPK) Student Club from Kuching Polytechnic to organize a Beach Cleaning Campaign programme at Pasir Pandak. Held on May 18, 2024, this collaborative effort underscored the importance of proactive environmental stewardship and effective inter-institutional cooperation. The Beach Cleaning Campaign drew an impressive turnout of 80 participants, reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of the student community towards environmental conservation. Their active involvement underscored a collective desire to contribute meaningfully to the improvement of our surroundings.

The presence of esteemed figures such as Dr. Lee Kui Soon, the Persaintek Advisor, and Dr. Mohamad Hasnul bin Bolhassan, the Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Alumni) of the Faculty of Science and Resource Technology, lent credence to the significance of the event. Their attendance also highlighted the institutional support for initiatives aimed at environmental conservation.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 14 (Life Below Water) and Goal 17 (Partnership for the Goals), this initiative aimed to address urgent environmental issues while fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Financial backing from the UNIMAS Student Development Center (PPP) played a crucial role in the successful execution of the program. This support not only demonstrated institutional commitment to student-led initiatives but also translated into tangible outcomes.

Expressing gratitude for the support extended by all involved parties, the organizers emphasized the importance of collective action in safeguarding the environment. By instilling a sense of responsibility and ownership among participants, it is hoped that this program will cultivate lasting habits of environmental stewardship, leaving a positive impact on individuals and the community at large. This collaborative endeavor serves as a shining example of how student-led initiatives can drive positive change and inspire others to take action in preserving our planet’s natural resources.
