A Confluence of Learning, Collaboration, and Tribute

The annual “Appreciating the UNIMAS Vision & Mission” workshop, organised by the Centre for Applied Learning & Multimedia (CALM), took place from August 11th to August 13th, 2023, at the Raia Hotel in Kuching. The event aimed to familiarise newly appointed academics and administrators from various faculties and departments at UNIMAS with the university’s vision and mission.

The workshop kicked off with an introduction to UNIMAS and CALM by Dr. Kartini bt. Abd Ghani, the esteemed director, and Ts. Dr. Dayang Azra binti Awang Mat, the Coordinator for the Academic Training Unit. An ice-breaking session, led by Deputy Director for Learning Advancement, Dr. Nor Mazlina binti Ghazali, set a friendly and collaborative tone among the participants.

On the first day, Ybhg. Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim bin Suadi, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS, enlightened attendees about the university’s Vision & Mission and Core Values. The workshop aimed to inspire excellence in teaching and elevate UNIMAS as a global leader for a sustainable future. Senior Director, Research, Innovation, and Enterprise Centre, YBrs. Prof Dr Lo May Chiun, delved into “Enhancing Your Research and Innovation Capacity For A Sustainable Future,” encouraging participants to engage in research for the betterment of the university and the community.

The second day began with YBhg. Prof. Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), emphasising the importance of preparing graduates for the evolving workforce and community roles. Key takeaways from his presentation included adapting curricula, refining teaching techniques, and aligning educational programs with workforce trends.

YBhg. Prof Ir Dr Al-Khalid bin Haji Othman spoke about “Students Affairs and Alumni: Empowering Change Agents For A Sustainable Future.” He emphasized the role of student facilities, support systems, and alumni in molding students into agents of positive change.

The day continued with YBrs. Tuan Haji Azlan bin Ramli addressing “Understanding Governance, Statute, Management And Support Services In UNIMAS.” This session provided insights into the university’s administrative and operational mechanisms.

The day ended with a session by YBrs. Dr Nasriman bin Abdul Rahman, Director of the Integrity Division, focusing on “Integrity and Human Resource Management.” Attendees learned about the importance of integrity in the university’s processes and decision-making.

The workshop concluded with a talk by YBhg. Prof Datu Mohd Fadzil bin Abd Rahman, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS, on “Developing Pathways For Talent Excellence And Organizational Performance.” Attendees engaged in a Q&A session with deans and directors, followed by presentations on topics related to UNIMAS’s vision and mission.

CALM hosted a delightful dinner, featuring participants’ talents and a heartfelt tribute to Puan Siti Rogayah, who is retiring after over three decades of service. On the final day, attendees left with valuable insights and skills to propel their careers within the university.

A special acknowledgment was given to Team CALM for their dedication in making the workshop a success. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and you’ve truly shone in ensuring the event’s success. Congratulations, Team CALM!
